Le Mars City Ordinances

The City of Le Mars has imposed specific city ordinances to provide for a more enjoyable and safe community experience. Below are a few frequent topics many Le Mars visitors and residents ask for clarification on. For a full list of city ordinances and definitions, go to the City of Le Mars (Code & Building) website: www.lemarsiowa.com.

Overnight Parking - Downtown

The City of Le Mars has posted designated no parking hours for downtown locations. Between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., no vehicles shall be parked or left on the city downtown streets. This code is enforced year round, and during snow removal season, vehicles are subject to being towed away at the owner's expense.

Streets include: Hwy 3 (Plymouth St) from 2nd Ave W to 2nd Ave E

Central Ave from 2nd St N to 2nd St S

1st Ave W from 1st St NW to 1st St SW

1st Ave E from Plymouth St to 2nd St NE

1st St S from Central Ave to 1st Ave SW

1st St N from 1st Ave NW to 1st Ave NE

2nd St NW from Central Ave to 1st Ave NW (South side only)

2nd St NE from Central Ave to 1st Ave NE

2nd St SW from Central Ave to 1st Ave SW (North side only)

2nd St SE from Central Ave to 1st Ave SE (North side only).

Residential Odd / Even Parking

This parking restriction is enforced November 1st to April 1st of each calendar year for the purpose of snow removal. On any street where parallel parking is otherwise lawfully permitted on both sides of the roadway (some streets are posted for side specific parking): on the odd-numbered address side of the street on odd-numbered calendar days and on the even-numbered address side of the street on even-numbered calendar days. For more information contact the Police Department.

Scenario: On November 12th, at 6 p.m., a citizen wants to park their vehicle on the city street for overnight parking. The citizen has an odd-number resident address. As the calendar day would roll over to November 13th, at midnight, the citizen should park their vehicle for overnight parking on the odd-numbered address side of the street or in this case, in front of the citizen's residence.
